The initial 2010 US Census population was 48,491. The unincorporated "town" of Havertown lies wholly within Haverford Township. Haverford Township contains portions of the communities of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Drexel Hill, and Wynnewood. Despite being under a home rule charter since 1977, it continues to operate under a Board of Commissioners divided into wards, as do "First Class" townships that are still under the Pennsylvania Township Code. It maintains its legal name as the Township of Haverford, presumably for historic reasons. The library was renovated in 2000 as part of the "Changing Lives" campaign, which refurbished branches and brought Internet service to every library.Haverford Township (named after the town of Haverfordwest in Wales, UK) is a home rule township in Delaware County, near Philadelphia, in southeastern Pennsylvania, United States. It was a forerunner of the Haddington Leadership Organization, which is still active today, working for the betterment of the community. The Northwest Fellowship Council was founded in 1954. Haverford was a main road in the area.ĭuring the Civil War, this area was a center for training recruits for the Union Army. By 1847, the section between 65th and 67th Streets on Haverford Road appeared as "Haddington" on maps. The neighborhood had its beginning when John Rhoads received the land from William Penn.
